The handwoven Kilims of Sirjan offer a good balance of durability and beauty. Due to the precise and subtle construction techniques used, sometimes it lasts for years for a craftsman to weave a kilim. Handmade Kerman Kilims typically have both bold types and colors. Designs are often geometric, and sometimes feature flower (rose) motif. Various colors, such as blue, black, ivory and others, are often used against a red background.

It is 100% wool and hand made. Sirjan city produces antique Handmade Kerman Kilims with traditional designs. Weavers are mostly women. Women start this profession from early age and continue till the end of their lives. Additionally, the designs are mostly based on the features of the surrounding nature. For example, trees, animals, such as goat, birds, and camels, are included in the designs too.

Kerman Kilims are produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands to produce a flat surface with no pile. The Kilim is mainly woven by nomads, and is extremely versatile and with geometric patterns and bright colors.

In order to globally register Kilim of Sirjan, the UNESCO international handicrafts assessors and supervisors traveled to the city in Kerman province, to visit Handmade Kerman Kilims Rugs Museum and Kilim weaving workshops in the rural areas of Sirjan, including the village of Darestan known as the world’s Kilim village.
